According to Digital Spy, Patrick Melton (screenwriter) has come out and said that SAW VII may be the last in the series due to the poor box office results from SAW VI last year. He goes on to say that the studio had originally planned to end it after 8, but due to the box office results it may end a year early. I’m not sure how I feel about this yet. Sure, SAW V wasn’t the greatest installment in the series and it kind of turned a lot of people off to seeing SAW VI, but I feel that 6 actually washed away the bad taste that 5 left in my mouth. So while I would love to see a new installment every year, obviously it has to come to an end, but I don’t think that money should be the reason since the profits on the original SAW alone could have funded all 6 in the series so far. I know, I know, the money Lionsgate has made from the SAW franchise is one of the main reasons they’ve been able to fund a ton of other movies, which I’m grateful for, so I guess as long as they tie everything together in part 7 and end it on a good note I’d have no problem seeing it go.
What do you guys think about SAW VII being the last in the series?

I have no issues with the next film becoming the final installment, even though i love everything saw, but it has to end at some point. In a way they could make a prequel to the series anyway. There are a lot of loose ends still to tie up, but who can say at the moment weather these will be covered in the next film or not.
Lets just see.

let’s not forget that Saw 6 opened the same time Paranormal Activity premiered nation-wide.
I think they should have ended it at 6. I know they have enough material to do eleventy-billion more, but they seem to have come to a place where the franchise can’t push ahead much more. They’ve had 5 sequels and still can’t top or even come close to the jaw-drop they pulled in the first. 6 was easily predicted, except that Hoffman would live. I assumed Hoffman would die and Jill would close the big heavy door, say “game over”, roll credits done see you later bye. Im very glad Hoffman lived and HOW he prevented the “reverse bear tap” from ripping his head apart. they NEED to end it though. Have Hoffman and Jill duke it out for an hour or so then right when those two are bloody and face-to-face, zoom out, spotlight on, reveal Julie Benz with some type of industrial control box in her hand (big nasty scar on it), she says “playtime’s over” hits the red button amazing death ensues. PLEASE.

Absolutely love the Saw collection, and I am extremely exstatic about #7. Can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next; I’ll probably have to watch at least two or three times. Then, if #7 is the last, going to go buy the whole collection together at once. I don’t own any of the movies because I want the complete set as one.
